Chasing
Lance by Martin Dugard
This is a wonderfully written journal about
Dugard's daily encounters while following Lance Armstrong's last Tour
de France. Starting in Fromentine, he writes about the sights, sounds,
smells and quirky people he meets along the way to Paris. For first
time Tour de France readers, he explains the history of the race,
the cyclists, the fierce relationships between them and the Tour's
dangerous course. This is an excellent book that will inform, entertain
and, most of all, inspire. |

Complete
Triathlon Book
There are so many books out there for triathletes,
but this book has the highest recommendation from TriathaNewbie.com
because it details every inch of training for a triathlon. It starts
with the basic terms, describes training methods, explains nutrition,
outlines proper equipment and it is VERY easy to understand. All of
the questions you have are answered in this book. For instance, it
explains pool etiquette, stretching techniques, fabric for training
apparel, how to buy the proper bike, how to buy the proper shoe and
even goes as far as to explain how to maintenance your bike. There
is no topic left out in this book! Although it is geared to training
for full length triathlons, it translates nicely for mini-triathletes.
If you only pick up one book to use for training, this is it! |

Triathloning
for Ordinary Mortals
Because this book is written from a runner's point of view, runners
may feel more at home reading this book and making the transition
into marathon-equivalent triathloning. A marathon-equivalent triathlon
is roughly a 1-1.5 mile swim, 20-25 mile bike and 6-10 mile run. It
lists a training program that puts the emphasis on the amount of time
rather than the distance of a workout. This is great for all of you
who don't like to count miles, and there are workout schedules for
you to follow. It also explains nutrition and how to establish an
important aerobic base before your training begins. Because this book
explains very little and also feels that the swimming part of the
triathlon is the least important, you may want to use a second resource
for swim training purposes. |

Triathlon
Swimming Made Easy & Freestyle Made Easy DVD
There are so many books written on how to swim, but this book can
not only teach a brand new swimmer how to swim, but it can take
an experienced swimmer and reteach a stroke that is much more effortless
and smooth. A TriathaNewbie.com staff member, who is a veteran swimmer,
has begun using this technique in her workouts and has found that
her core is stronger, her pull and kick
are more efficient and is looking forward to using these techniques
in her upcoming triathlons. Although the book is well written, we
recommend that you purchase the DVD as a visual companion. The drills
and techniques are much easier to understand -- almost as easy as
having a personal coach on deck explaining and demonstrating them!
