Walk or Run?

I need general info on what a mini-marathon entails. I am not a runner so I am looking of a mini that allows the "running" portion to be a walking portion, if there is such a thing. Can you direct me to a web site that has more basic information. Thank you

Pat from MI

Hi Pat,
Thanks for contacting TriathaNewbie.com!

Although you "can" walk during mini-triathlons, it's best to train to jog or run it and walk only as the last resort. Believe me, I've personally walked short segments of the run because I was exhausted, but it's respectful to the sport to do your very best to jog out as much as you can.

That said, we did a search for tris in your area and this is what we've found:

http://www.eliteendeavors.com/
http://www.racingforrecovery.com/

You may want to find one that looks good to you and make a phone call to the event coordinator and find out if their tri is geared to the non-runner. Hey, it can't hurt. We have connections with a group in Canada that actually puts on events geared towards brand new athletes -- not just brand new triathletes. I'll cc Rob Matthews and Terry McKintry on this email and maybe they can point you in a direction where you can find exactly the information you are looking for. This is the website for their events: http://www.somersault.ca/ There are many hybrid tris out there and we hope that you are able to find the perfect on for you! Please let us know how it goes.

Be well.
~Niki

It has been a while since you sent this and I'm cleaning up my email a bit. I did find a tri in my area. A Tri Sprint put on by ESTEvents not 30 miles away, Women only. Yes, I'm going to try to run. Thanks for the advice. Keep up the good work.
estevents.com Michigan Waterloo area. Quite a group.

This tri sprint is for 1/2 mile swim, 10.7 bike and 3 run. I can do it. Thanks for your help.
