A Good Idea
It is a good idea to read the event literature at http://www.somersault.ca/eventgrahambeasley.htm. The answers to most questions can be found there or on the www.somersault.ca website, under the headers ‘General Information’ and ‘Rules and Race Day Tips’..
Charity of the Event

Club of the Event
We are pleased to announce that Search and Rescue Global 1, is our “Club of the Event”. They are supplying many workers at the event in return for a donation from us, to further their community service work.
Canadian Ski Patrol
In our continuing efforts to host safe events, we are happy to announce that we have retained the Canadian Ski Patrol for this event, and the entire Somersault program, to provide first aid and emergency response services to our events. Patrollers will be on the event site, and out on both the cycle and run courses for your safety. In return we are proud to be making a substantial donation to the Canadian Ski Patrol in return. This is one of the ways we are putting the entry fee surcharge to good community use.
Somersault Motorcycle Patrol Group
Once again we are lucky to have retained the services of several motorcycle enthusiasts who are providing safety and fairness officiating services at each of the events. These motorcycle officials will and do have the authority to officiate. They have the authority to penalize unsafe or unfair cycling behaviours and are knowledgeable of cycling rules. Please respect them and adhere to their instructions. This is another example of the good use of the entry fee surcharge.
Cycling Protocol and Safety
The Graham Beasley cycle course is open to both cyclists and motor vehicles, so cyclists must exercise caution and follow the rules of the road, except when authorized to by event marshals or police officers. There will several hundred cyclists on the roads at any one time during the event. The Somersault Motorcycle Patrol Group will be on the course enforcing race and safety rules. Cyclists obey the rules of the road – especially you beginners and slower riders. At all times, slower riders must ride on the right hand side of the road. You should only venture out from the edge of the road, when you are passing, which you should do quickly, and then return immediately to the right hand side of the roadway.
All normal rules of triathlon cycling apply at Somersault races (“Rules & Race Tips” on the website). Crossing the centre line almost always results in an automatic disqualification.
Coaches and Clubs Links
We recommend that inexperienced participants and newcomers consult with friends who are more experienced, or even contact one of the many coaches, clubs, and trainers, who are listed in the Clubs and Coaches section on our website, at http://www.somersault.ca/clubsandcoaches.htm. Just a few minutes with these people, will ensure you are better prepared for the event.
Cheers!
Terry, Christine, and Steve
